A factory of the Algerian Farming and Hydraulic Equipment Company, the first drip irrigation system producing company, was inaugurated Sunday by Industry Minister, El Hachemi Djaaboub, in the subprefecture of Cheraga (Algiers).
According to APS, Djaaboub, accompanied by the company's General Manager Hadji Messaoud, said that the new factory "was the first of the kind in Africa and the Arab world in terms of technologies used and the labour qualification," adding that its construction comes under the implementation of the farming development plan.
On his turn, Messaoud noted that the high import cost and the rising demand on the domestic market has urged his company to start producing hydraulic equipment, set to cover irrigation needs of 240,000 hectares per annum. In addition, he pointed out that the factory, which current production covers the irrigation of 80,000 hectares, has created 220 jobs so far.
