Dubai's Al Fattan Tower recently became the first building in the Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR) to be connected to a permanent district cooling plant of Empower, the Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation.
A total of 42 towers at JBR are set to be linked to the cooling plant by 2009, including 36 residential towers, four hotels and two Al Fattan developments, according to Gulf News.
Contracts for cooling from the district cooling plant have also been signed with Dubai Health Care City, Dubai International Financial Centre, Business Bay, City of Arabia and International Media Production Zone.
Empower will supply a total of 886,000 RT over the next 25 years to such developments.
"The partnership with Empower represents a significant added-value service to both our community and business reflected in its reliable, clean and cost-efficient power," said projects development director at Al Fattan Properties, Salah Aziz.
Also commenting on the positive partnership was Ahmad Bin Shafar, CEO of Empower, who pointed out, "Empower once again finds itself in the privileged position of partnering yet another mega-project in Dubai, which stands as one of the biggest and most prestigious."
The company, formed in December 2003, was originally a joint venture between the Dubai Technology and Media Free Zone and the Dubai Electricity and Water Authority.
