Dubai’s GAC Logistics, the freight forwarding and distribution division of the GAC Group, has established three new logistics offices in South Africa as part of the GAC Group’s (GAC) long-term globalisation strategy. The offices, which are located in Cape Town, Johannesburg, and Durban, provide a full range of freight forwarding and warehousing services.
Setting up logistics operations in South Africa is a natural progression for the company, said Bill Hill, group vice president, Logistics Division, GAC. “GAC has been offering shipping agency services in the South African markets since 1998.”
“The decision to extend our logistics operations here is in line with GAC's Vision X—Global Reach business plan unveiled earlier this year. The goal is integrate our unique combination of services, not only across business divisions but also across geographical regions.”
As the key economy driver for Africa, contributing close to a quarter of its Gross Domestic Product (GDP), South Africa is a strong manufacturing and distribution base for food and beverage, tobacco, furniture, textiles, leather and electrical products. The declining Rand has also contributed to a steady rise in export volume.
“Our immediate priorities are to promote the long-standing brand of GAC Logistics and its capabilities in global solutions. As part of the GAC international network, we will also tap on our global purchasing power for more competitive rates,” said Vivian Wright, general manager, GAC Logistics (South Africa).
GAC Logistics services include air and sea freight, warehousing and distribution, door-to-door transportation, project logistics, international moving and courier services. GAC Logistics operates an integrated worldwide network, serving international manufacturers, distributors and retailers from the FMCG, textiles, pharmaceutical, automotive, electronics and oil and gas industries.
The GAC Group (GAC) is the world’s largest independent shipping and transport services provider, with over 200 offices worldwide. Established in 1956, GAC’s core business covers three core areas—shipping, logistics and marine services. GAC employs more than 5,000 people worldwide. Group corporate head office is in Dubai, in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). — (menareport.com)
