GE Aircraft Engines, a division of the American General Electric Company, has won a contract to supply GE F110 fighter engines to the Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO). The new engines will power the RAFO's new fleet of 12 Lockheed Martin F-16 aircraft. The contract, valued at more than $50 million, makes Oman the 10th country in the world to select the F110 engine family for its F-16 fighter fleet.
The Royal Air Force of Oman is expected to receive their F110 engine deliveries in 2004. The RAFO selected the F110-GE-129 model, rated at a powerful 29,000 pounds of thrust, to be installed on their new fleet of fighter jets. The F110-GE-129 model first entered operational service back in 1992 when they were utilized by the US Air Force's F-16 fleet.
