The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) recently organized a familarization trip for more than 120 tour operators from the leading German travel agency, Der Tour.

The visit was co-sponsored by Emirates Airlines, Jumeirah International and Arabian Adventures. The tour operators were given a tour of Dubai and were informed on the latest developments as well as important landmarks of the emirate.

DTCM Manager of Missions Hamad Bin Mejren said that Europe is a target market and Germany holds immense importance for the emirate in terms of tourism. “With tour operators coming to Dubai, we have shown them what we have to offer to visitors from tourism as well as from the business points of view,” said Bin Mejren.

Mejren noted that visitor traffic to the emirate as well tour operators promoting Dubai has grown appreciably. “There are 106 German tour operators featuring Dubai in their itinerary. The number of German hotel establishment guests in the year 2002 registered a remarkable increase of 15.19 percent as their number increased to 171,140 from 148,570 in 2001. From 1998 to 2002, the German hotel guests to Dubai registered an increase of 140.82 percent'.

A city tour was also arranged for the visiting tour operators, which gave them a broader picture of the emirate. “We arranged trips to shopping malls, hotels, beaches, desert sites and also showed them a film on Dubai which will help them to understand the history, traditions, heritage and modernization of the emirate,” added Mejren. — (menareport.com)
