Germany will maintain development aid to Palestine at €44 million ($39 million) this year, unchanged from 2000, despite the extreme tension in the region, development minister Heidemarie Wieczorek-Zeul said on Friday, April 6.
Most of this aid will be use to finance water supply projects, much like last year, she said.
The German government will also grant a further €7.67 million towards a job creation program aimed at the young. The World Bank contributes €12.27 million towards this program.
Wieczorek-Zeul told a news conference attended by the Palestinian Authority representative to Germany Abdallah Frangi, that German officials assigned to Palestinian territory would stay in place despite the current violence, although the restricted freedom of movement made their work more difficult. — (AFP, Berlin)
