Egyptian Prime Minister Atef Ebeid will launch a convention on October 21 to discuss Egyptian-German economic cooperation. The Arab-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry (AGCCI) will organize the event. The convention marks the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the chamber.

The objective of the conference is to solidify guidelines for further enhancement of bilateral cooperation in various economic and trade sectors by setting up new joint ventures, stated Ismail Othman, Chairman of the AGCCI.

Othman stated that as many as 300 Egyptian and German businessmen and investors will take part in the gathering, reported the Egyptian News Agency.

German Ambassador to Jordan, Martin Schneller said at a news conference on October 1, 2001 that Germany also plans to hold an event to promote investment advantages in Jordan's Aqaba Special Economic Zone (ASEZ) by March 2002. German investors are interested in investment projects in energy, telecommunications and tourism in ASEZ, Schneller added.

Schneller also revealed that King Abdullah of Jordan is planned to visit Germany in order to discuss the prospects for enhancing economic ties between the two countries with German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder. — (Mena Report)
