The year 2004 was marked by major global economic events and developments that had a major bearing on Africa’s economic performance, African Development Bank President said Wednesday. The region’s GDP growth rate reached an average of 4.5 percent in 2004, resulting in a per capita GDP growth of 2.3 percent. In North Africa, average growth rate in 2004, was at 4.7 per cent, say above the African average but marginally fell short of the 4.9 percent recorded in 2003.
