The Manama-based Gulf Air, which is jointly owned by Abu Dhabi, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman, is currently in the midst of negotiations with a major airline alliance to enhance its global coverage and gain market access to new destinations.
Gulf Air representatives have yet to disclose the name of the airline alliance involved in the talks. Gulf Air presently operates four types of passenger aircraft: Airbus A340-300s, Boeing 767-300Ers, A300-200s and Airbus A320-200s.
The airline currently flies to numerous destinations in the Gulf and throughout the world. It also has inter-airline agreements with eight carriers to cover other destinations, and it maintains a special arrangement with Air Canada, reports Gulf News. Gulf Air has a code-sharing agreement with American Airlines on flights to New York, Chicago and Miami via London. British Airline is Gulf Air’s partner in the United Kingdom, while Royal Air Maroc jointly serves routes between the Gulf and Morocco.
Other code-sharing partners of Gulf Air include Cyprus Airways (for the Larnaca route), Air Tanzania (Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar), Philippine Airlines, and Uganda Airlines (Kampala). –(Albawaba-MEBG)
