Despite the prevailing circumstances in the region, the 15th Gulf Education and Training Exhibition (GETEX) will be held according to schedule from April 8-11, 2003, at the Dubai World Trade Center. This was announced at a press conference Wednesday, April 2, 2003, to highlight new developments in this year's event. The show will have over 300 exhibitors from 30 countries exhibiting a variety of educational diplomas, programs and courses.

"In view of the present circumstances, there has been tremendous international focus centered on the Gulf region. However, we would like to reiterate that the show will be taking place according to schedule, which is a reflection of Dubai's international reputation as an oasis of peace and a city that has always displayed a strong commitment to education." said David Domoney, Managing Director, International Conferences & Exhibitions, organizers of the show.

"With its strategic location as a gateway to a vast region with a huge potential in the educational sector, Dubai has proved to be an exceedingly lucrative market in the educational sector. In keeping with the success of last year's event, we aim to drastically increase the impact of the exhibition this year, with added participation from Germany, Netherlands and the national pavilions of UK, France and Malaysia.”

“With over 50,000 educational courses and training programs on offer, it is no wonder that the show is ranked as the leading event of its kind in the region. In addition, there will be an active program of seminars at the exhibition for parents as well as prospective students," he added.

Stephanie Evans, UAE Education Promotion Manager at the British Council, said: "The British Council is delighted to be supporting GETEX for its 15th year, where our theme will be 'Accessibility'.“

“Educational opportunities in the UK have never been more accessible for international students, in terms of the range of high quality choice, access to student visas, and affordability. It is an exciting time for UK education and visitors to our stand will also be able to learn more about a whole new range of opportunities, from degree courses especially tailored to the needs of Gulf students to UK eUniverities, which are using the internet to make UK higher education more widely available than ever before. We look forward to welcoming all the visitors to GETEX."

"UAE higher education system offers high quality and diverse opportunities for UAE nationals to pursue educational programs beyond secondary school level, inside the country as well as outside," said Saif Al Mazroui, Director of Educational Programs and Degree Equivalencies at the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research.

"We look forward to participating at the exhibition as it provides us with an opportunity to showcase a diverse range of programs targeted at students who are on the look out for quality educational opportunities, within the UAE," he added.

"Knowledge Village is a vibrant and connected learning community that is aimed at developing the region's talent pool and accelerating its move to the knowledge economy. This visionary initiative consolidates the emirate's position as the leading educational hub in the region," said Abdulla Al-Karam, Director of Knowledge Village.

"We are pleased to announce that this is our first participation at the leading educational event, which is an ideal platform for us to garner further awareness of Knowledge Village and attract a wider spectrum of students and educational institutes, who are looking to set up base in the country."

"GETEX offers students an ideal opportunity to speak directly to representatives from the visiting institutions," said Anne Argyris, Consul and Senior Trade Commissioner, Canadian Consulate, Dubai.

"Canada is a multicultural, safe and friendly environment for international students. Last year more than 1,000 students from the Gulf countries went to Canada to start their studies and over 500 of these originated from the United Arab Emirates. There has been a steady increase of expatriates choosing Canada for their studies but last year saw a significant increase from Gulf nationals as well. We anticipate that this trend will continue to grow," she added. — (menareport.com)
