In a move to expand its export market in the GCC countries, Gulf Extrusions, the UAE-based market leader in aluminium extrusion in the GCC region, has announced new plans to target the booming construction sector in Qatar with custom-built aluminium profiles. The company will showcase its state of the art aluminium profiles portfolio at Project Qatar 2004, to be held from September 19 to 23, at the Qatar International Exhibition Centre.
"Gulf Extrusions has built an enviable reputation in the Middle East as a manufacturer of high-quality aluminium profiles. Our profiles have successfully competed for projects in the Arab World, Europe and Canada. In Qatar, Gulf Extrusions is already manufacturing custom-built profiles for certain important projects. But the construction industry is booming in the country and the
market has huge untapped potential that we are targeting," said Robert Holtkamp, Director of Sales and Marketing, Gulf Extrusions.
Gulf Extrusions has identified three main target segments for its profiles. These include Qatar's tourism industry, the high profile projects in the country's corporate sector (including projects in the fast expanding education
sector) and the housing projects targeting the fast growing population of Qatar's capital city, Doha.
According to independent studies, the population of Qatar stood at an estimated 600,000 in 2001. This figure has increased to over 817,000 in 2004. Half of this population resides in Doha, significantly boosting the demand for modern housing projects. Similarly, due to clearly articulated government policies that encourage the diversification of the national economy from a purely oil-based one, have resulted in a boom of construction projects
in the corporate sector. This is complemented by public sector infrastructure projects, like the new airport at Doha and the Olympic Village, 10 kilometres north of the capital, being built to host the athletes in the 2006 Asian
Games.
"Gulf Extrusions has the technical know-how and the experience garnered in large projects across the world to custom-build aluminium profiles to meet the most exacting of quality standards," said Holtkamp. "Project Qatar 2004 will give Gulf Extrusions the opportunity to showcase its extensive portfolio of profiles, as well as to build on our network of existing and potential partners in the construction industry."
Gulf Extrusions has an existing capacity of 30,000 MT (Mega Tonnes) of aluminium profiles, producing a range of more than 7000 different profiles. It has recently invested in cutting-edge Swiss technology to increase the capacity of its thermal break profiles. It is also the only manufacturer in the GCC countries to use Spectrocolor anodising technology to produce profiles in a spectacular range of colours (including blue, green and grey) not used traditionally for aluminium profiles.
