HP has been awarded a contract by Umniah Mobile Company, the most recent entrant into Jordan’s growing GSM market, an agreement to supply Umniah with the IT infrastructure needed to build its business support system. HP was appointed ahead of international competition to install and integrate the state-of-the-art IP telephony systems that are expected to cultivate sweeping changes in Jordan's telecom industry.

The partnership between the two companies was formally acknowledged by Joseph Hanania – Managing Director of HP Middle East and Michael Dagher, partner and CEO of Umniah Mobile Company, at a press conference held in Dubai, where they also spoke about its significance for the region.

Revealing details of the project, Dagher explained that Umniah was driving an industry initiative aimed at establishing a contemporary mobile telecom infrastructure in Jordan. "We have been studying the advantages of implementing an IP telephony based call centre to provide reliable communications. By using the integrated set of applications which build IPCC, we can now plan an open communication base which supports geographical independence of users and integrates access to various media."

Under the terms of the partnership, HP will provide Umniah with the necessary IT infrastructure to build the telecom company's Business Support System, which includes Mediation and Service Provisioning, Proliant blades and HP Integrity servers, HP 9000 and storage systems. Apart from creating the infrastructure for comprehensive business operations, HP will also cross-integrate the mediation system with billing and switches, and service provisioning with billing, CRM and network.

"It is among the first steps in a long journey to ensure that customer satisfaction is the hallmark of our activities and it is our privilege to welcome HP as our partner on this journey," Dagher added. "Our choice of HP, a global leader in technology solutions, is strategic to our long term plans. It is this high level of technology, know-how and experience that is required to fully support our aggressive business model."

Speaking at the conference, HP's Joseph Hanania applauded Umniah's decision to adopt HP’s solutions: "Jordan is at the forefront of the region's telecom's industry, and the introduction of HP’s technology solutions catapult Umniah into a select group of players in the region who have the foresight and the capability to provide highly efficient customer service in mobile telephony.

Hanania elaborated on HP winning the Umniah contract: “We were awarded this contract against stiff competition, because of HP's strengths and proven track record, both in Jordan and in the rest of the world.  Chief among the many factors that worked in our favour are our ability to roll out services very easily, contain cost, improve agility and most importantly, to be able to go live in a very short period of time – between three and five months.

"Umniah chose HP as a strategic partner last year, and this new agreement not only strengthens their association with HP but creates a platform for the two organisations to address other large projects in the region," he added.
