Dubai is the locus of IT development in the Arab Middle East and North African region, said IDC in a White Paper published this month.

Based on the example set by Dubai in terms of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) investment and usage, and in terms of the critical logistics role, which the Emirate plays in the region, Dubai is a role model for the region, according to the report.

“From the global perspective, IDC sees the Arabian Gulf region as a leader in IT development over the last few years and in the years to come,” said Regional Director for IDC in the Middle Eastern region, Jyoti Lalchandani. “In an era of stagnation in IT markets in North America and Western Europe, the Gulf region technology markets are clicking along at 12-14 percent. The clear bellwether and hub for these developments is the UAE, and, within the UAE, Dubai.”

“The UAE has IT spending per capita of $380, comparable with the Western European average. Crucial technology projects, such as Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City, Knowledge Village, and Outsourcing Park, display a path breaking approach to the adoption of ICT,” added Lalchandani.

“Finally, Dubai's role as the trade, re-export, and logistics center for a huge area stretching from the Indian Subcontinent to the eastern coast of Africa help to spread this technology savvy throughout the wider region.” — (menareport.com)
