Vice President of the Republic of Indonesia Hamzah Haz with Chief of Sharjah Amiri Court Sheikh Abdullah Bin Salem Al-Qassimi opened Indonesia's first solo exhibition in the Middle East.
The Indonesian Solo Exhibition (ISE), which runs until Saturday, September 20, 2003 at the Expo Centre Sharjah, is the government's first push in the region to promote Indonesian exports in the Middle East and target re-export markets of Africa and CIS. The Vice President was accompanied by a high-ranking delegation and Chairperson of the National Agency of Export Development (NAFED), Diah Maulida.
The opening was also attended by several Indonesian Ambassadors from around the Middle East and Africa along with officials and diplomats from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Indonesian exports to the region have seen tremendous growth in the last five years, in the UAE alone it increased from $649.6 million in 1999 to $756.978 in 2001.
ISE has attracted various businesses from the country including chemicals, plastics and rubber, packaging, automotive spare parts, boats and furniture manufacturers to textiles, garments, fashion and cosmetic producers. There is also a huge representation from the tourism, banking and investment sector. — (menareport.com)
