Abeer, a second year student at the University of Jordan has overcome the adversities in her life, to work towards a Biomedical Engineering degree, simply because she believes that she can use it to benefit her community and help people.
Bayt.com, through Al-Aman Fund for the Future of Orphans, is sponsoring Abeer in her endeavors for higher education. The program covers college fees for two years, and includes accommodation, monthly allowances for stationary, transportation and personal expenses, as well as medical insurance.
We asked Abeer a few questions about her experience so far, and here’s what she had to share:
Tell us a bit about yourself.
My name is Abeer, and I am from Amman, Jordan. I grew up in an orphanage. I am now 19 years old, and in my second year as a college student, pursuing a degree at the Hashemite University.
During my free time, I like to read novels and play the guitar.
How has the Bayt.com scholarship helped you so far?
Bayt.com has provided me with all I need to pursue my university degree. Housing, life expenses as well as tuition fees are all covered for me.
Why did you choose to study biomedical engineering?
I think Biomedical Engineering is a very special field. I love it because it combines engineering with noble humanitarian work. From a very young age, I’ve watched news of wars in the region. The bombings that occur continuously affect children, and my frustration as a child was that I could not do anything to help them. But now, with this degree, God willing, I will be able to do a lot for them, and change their lives, with the support of Bayt.com, and the community.
What are your dreams for your career in the future?
My dream for tomorrow is to be a successful engineer. Success to me is not defined only by getting a good job, and making a lot of money. To me it is much more than that. I hope God gives me the power and strength to be successful in helping and serving others. This to me is the essence of freedom, life and happiness. As for my job, it would have to fit my ambitions and dreams.
Any last words?
I am very lucky to have such great support and I appreciate all the help I’ve received. Your generosity means a lot to me.
