Inter-Arab investments reached in 2001 some $2.45 billion. Saudi Arabia was the largest recipient, collecting $721 million, said the Arab Investments Guarantee Organization. Sudan came in second place with $555 million followed by Algeria with $350 million.
Lebanon received $225 million worth of Arab investments in 2001, followed by the United Arab Emirates, who collected $215 million and Egypt with $88.2 million. These six countries have taken 88.1 percent of the total Arab Investments, of which 50 percent were injected into the services sector.
Saudi Arabia is the leading investor in the region, injecting $466 million into other Arab nations, followed by Syria at $305 million and the United Arab Emirates with $304 million.
Inter-Arab investments reached $ 2.28 billion in 2000, a 4.3 percent growth rate compared to 1999. Tunisia received the largest share of the investments, collecting $669.4 million. — (menareport.com)
