Iran’s 21st application for joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) will be reviewed at the organization’s general session on February 14, Deputy Commerce Minister Khosrotaj was qouted as saying on Sunday.

“Iran’s petition to join the WTO was on the agenda of the last session held in Geneva on December 13, 2004, but it was rejected due to U.S. opposition,” Khosrotaj said, according to the Iranian Students’ News Agency (ISNA).

According to him, the opposition came despite the European countries’ earlier assurances to support Iran's bid.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Khosrotaj asserted, “Development is not possible without having relations with the world. Therefore, the Islamic Republic should play its role in devising and formulating the rules and regulations overseeing international trade.”
