ALBAWABA – The Iranian Foreign Ministry condemned the recent US oil sanctions imposed on the Iranian energy sector, calling them "illegal," according to Iranian media agencies.
US impose sanctions on Iran
According to the ministry, Iran will respond to the new US sanctions on its energy sector. It also stated that Washington's sanctions are aimed at supporting the Zionist regime.
Esmail Baghaei, foreign ministry spokesman, said: “The policy of threats and maximum pressure had no impact on Iran’s will to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, national interests and citizens against any violation and foreign aggressions.”

It is worth noting that US imposed new sanctions on the Iranian energy, oil, and petrochemicals sectors on Friday, following Iran’s attack on Israel on October 1, 2024.
The US Treasury Department announced that the sanctions aim to target Iranian ships involved in transporting and selling Iranian oil.
Baghaei also added that Iran’s attack on Israel was legal and Iran now fully obtains the right to respond to the newly imposed sanctions in its own manner.
Israel, US, and Iran conflict
The recent US sanctions were announced as the world awaits Israel’s response to Iran’s attack earlier this month.
Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden advised Israel not to target Iran’s oil infrastructure, noting that Iran is among the world's top producers.
