Iran Khodro Industrial Group (IKIC) will present some 4,000 compressed natural gas (CNG)-fueled Peugeot RD, Peugeot GLI, Peugeot 405 and Samand automobiles at the request of its clients, an official in the group told to Tehran Times.

If the required infrastructure is provided, IKIC would manufacture only CNG-fueled vehicles, said the IKIC CNG-Fueled Vehicles’ Project Manager, Alireza Feizbakhsh.

“The first step has been taken by dual-fuel the gasoline-fueled automobiles however, the second step, that is to say designing and manufacturing the CNG –fueled cars is currently underway.”

He also stressed that double fueling the vehicles is a measure taken in line with the national interests and the country’s macro economy.

Reduction in the consumption of the imported gasoline and the more use of the natural gas whose required infrastructures for production and distribution is provided in the country, would be "very helpful" to the country’s economy.

In its bid to resolve some of the existing environmental problems, the IKIC has concluded a contract with the Tehran Taxi Service Organization on the delivery of 15,000 Samand models some of which have already been delivered to the organization.
