An Agriculture Ministry official said Sunday that Iran will achieve self-sufficiency in production of cooking oil in the near future.

Director for research and training affairs Ali Ahoun-Manash said that currently over 90 percent of cooking oil needs is imported form abroad.

However, with plans worked out by the ministry, over 80 percent of the oil demand will be produced domestically in three years, he added, according to IRIB

"Annually, on average close to US$ 1 billion of cooking oil is imported to the country," the official noted. (menareport.com)
