A recent report reveals that Iran ranks seventh in the world in apple cultivation, holding a 3.7 percent share in global apple production, reported the official Iranian news agency, IRNA.
Overall Iranian apple output per year stands at some two million tons, out of the 55.7 million tons produced annually throughout the world, according to the director general of the Iranian ministry of agriculture’s temperate and tropical fruits division, Nureddin Mowlavi.
Mowlavi added that in 2000, Iran exported 90,449 tons of apples, bringing in revenue of more than $10 million. An additional 32,847 tons of Apple juice concentrates, worth $16.4 million, were exported last year.
Apples are grown in most parts of Iran, with increasing concentration in the mountainous regions of northwest and Damavand plains. — (MENA Report)
