Another sign of the deepening economic relation between Iran and Iraq was registered last week, when a preliminary agreement was reached to set up a power transmission line between the two countries.

Quoted by the IRNA, the official Iranian news agency, Masoud Hojjat, deputy head of the Iranian state-owned power company Tavanir, said that the line to Iraq is part of a long-term plan to link Iran’s electricity network to all neighboring countries. Hojjat was speaking on his return from a visit to Iraq.

In February, Iran reported that it was exporting 45 megawatts of electricity to Azerbaijan, 40 megawatts to Turkey and 150 megawatts to Armenia.

According to Hojjat, at the end of March, Iran had a surplus of 1,000 megawatts of electricity available for export. – (MENA Report)
