Iran's Deputy Minister of Energy for water affairs, Reza Ardakanian, on Wednesday said that a water export agreement signed between Iran and Kuwait is invalid since it has not undergone the relevant legal formalities.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of the conference on promoting investment in water projects, the Iranian official added that a memorandum of understanding had been inked by the energy ministers of both sides on export of water from Iran to Kuwait. "According to Article 14 of the agreement, if the relevant legal formalities which are required to make it valid are not completed
within a year from the date of its signing, the document will lose its legal validity. "The one-year validity of the MoU expired on December 12 since the
legal formalities including its approval by the government, Majlis and the Guardians Councils were not completed. The document was just examined by Majlis commissions," he added, according to IRNA.
Ardakanian said that the license for export of bottled water has been approved by the relevant authorities and added that this will facilitate investment in the sector.
"The ministries of energy, health and medical treatment, industries and mines as well as the department of environment will cooperate in this respect," he concluded.
