American businessmen eager to rebuild war-torn Iraq have set up the Iraq–American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) in collaboration with prominent Iraqi American businessmen, private sector, non-profit organizations, US agencies, business leaders and academics, in Los Angeles.

The mission of IACC is to invigorate the small business community in Iraq by promoting open-market economy and a democratic political system in Iraq to ensuring that access to the market is open and fair, transparency, accountability and the rule of law is enforced.

A strong business community is based on business associations with audible voice in the policy making process. By serving as a platform to voice the business community’s needs and interest to political decision-makers, associations contribute to the growth of participatory civil society and the development of regulatory and policy environment conducive to private enterprise.

The IACC also seeks to promote open-market economy in Iraq through a competitive system where the rules are the same for all participants. Corruption is eliminated and transparency and accountability is strengthened. Compliance systems for small business are simplified and participation of business groups in the day-to-day process of government decision making is fostered and laws and institutions necessary for open market-oriented economy are developed. — (menareport.com)
