US-based engineering and construction conglomerate Parsons has been awarded a contract to reconstruct and renovate the Tadji military base and the Iraqi Armed Forces recruiting stations.
The contract was awarded through Parsons' Worldwide Environmental Restoration Contract (WERC) with the Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence (AFCEE).
The Tadji base project will include building renovation, repair of a wastewater treatment plant and installation of sewer distribution lines. Construction is expected to be complete by June 2004.
Parsons will hire and train local Iraqi contractors, suppliers and labor for this project, stated a press release. "Through this project and over 2300 to follow, tens of thousands of Iraqi people will be employed and trained," explains retired US Navy Rear Admiral David J. Nash, Director of the Program Management Office (PMO).
Parsons is currently operating out of 12 offices in the Middle East. The company is involved in the reconstruction of Iraq's infrastructure through a variety of contracts with the US government. Parsons is also working on the $1.8 billion Iraq Infrastructure II program with Bechtel awarded by USAID earlier this month. — (menareport.com)
