The Israeli government recently began construction work on the controversial electronic fence in an attempt to prevent suicide bombers from entering the country from the West Bank. The first 110 kilometers of the $220 million project has a target date of completion set for mid-2003.

Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat denounced Israel’s fence scheme as a fascist, apartheid measure. The fence is forecasted to extend the entire length of the West Bank, 350 kilometers, costing one million dollars per kilometer. The barrier will be developed into a series of fences, walls, ditches, patrol roads and electronic surveillance devices. — (menareport.com
