Israel's Ben Gurion international airport was paralyzed all day Tuesday, November 20, after airport staff went on what was meant to be a four-hour strike that led to all flights being cancelled, an airport spokesman said.
The strike by more than 2,000 airport staff was called by the central Histadrut union, which accused the management of failing to respect wage agreements signed in 1999.
Foreign airlines were given advance warning of the industrial action, which started at 8:00 am (0600 GMT) and was due to finish at midday, the spokesman said. However, the strike was continuing into the evening. Incoming flights were landing at the airport, near Tel Aviv, but were not being unloaded. — (AFP, Jerusalem)
