Jadaf Dubai, the oldest ship repair yard in the Arabian Gulf area, is continuing its strong performance with a 6.5 per cent increase in ship lifting operations during the second quarter of 2005, compared to the same period last year. The Dock No.1 at Jadaf Dubai which handles all types of sea faring vessels weighing up to 250 deadweight tonnes (DWT), was involved in the docking and undocking of 429 ships in the second quarter, while Dock No. II handled 177 ships.
Metal vessels and yatchts comprised majority of ships that were handled by Jadaf between April and June 2005, with lengths ranging from 12.8×80 meters to 31×11 meters. The biggest vessel that Jadaf handled in this quarter weighed 1360 tonnes, while the smallest ship weighed 144 tonnes.
“We have carried forward our excellent performance from the first quarter and have been able to meet the rising demand for ship docking and undocking services in this quarter as well,” said Khamis Abdullah Bin Jarsh, Assistance General Manager of Jadaf Dubai. “A major factor behind our achievements over the years is due to the high levels of technical expertise of our staff, which has resulted in maximum efficiency and productivity in our operations. Today, Jadaf Dubai caters to requirements from leading shipping lines from around the world as we are renowned for the quality of our services.”
“Further, the significant rise in dredging activities for the various offshore projects in Dubai has increased the need for regular maintenance for the ships used for dredging,” he added.
“Docking and undocking of ships is a complex operation requiring plenty of experience, precision and expertise in reading ship blueprints. The technical staff at Jadaf which comprise more than 70 per cent UAE Nationals ensure that the entire process is carried out smoothly, in the most efficient manner,” added Bin Garsh.
Since the last 28 years Jadaf Dubai is known for maintaining and repairing ships coming from different countries in the region, including South Asian, African and European countries. The increasing number of docking and undocking operations have given valuable experience to the staff and has prompted several countries to send their employees to Jadaf Dubai for training. Further, the training and development department at Jadaf Dubai is also working on developing a training programme that can be used to attract more trainers from other countries in the region.
