Bahrain’s Ministry of Electricity has commissioned Japan’s Sumitomo Electric Industries to supply, install and commission a 220 kilovolt switchgear and associated equipment at eight separate substations throughout the Kingdom valued at 11.9 million Bahraini dinars ($31.5 million).

Sumitomo will design, manufacture, supply, install, test and commission the switch gear along with its power cabling, control and protection equipment at three substations in West Manama, Hamad and Jasra. Switch gears at Hidd, Diplomatic Area Manama, Umm Al-Hassam and Isa substations will also be installed.

Bahrain has an annual electric generating capacity of approximately 4.7 billion kilowatt hours (bkwh). Driven by population growth, Bahrain's electric power consumption is growing at an annual rate of around five percent. — (menareport.com)
