JJ Valaya, the first Indian couturier to enter Dubai, is now strengthening his commitment to the region by opening an exclusive flagship store called JJ VALAYA ‘LIFE’. This is his first international store outside India.
Located at the premium Al Wasl Road, Jumeirah, the store will also showcase the extension of the label into other related fields akin to fine design. JJ VALAYA 'LIFE' will comprise womenswear, menswear, accessories, soft furnishings and signature tapestries.
The store will be launched through a series of spectacular fashion shows co-presented by ABN AMRO and Damas Jewellery. The shows will be held at the Dubai World Trade Centre on October 10 and 11, 2004 followed by the formal opening on October 12, 2004. The show on October 10, 2004 will be an exclusive all-women show.
At the event, Valaya will showcase his latest Fall-Winter collection for the first time even before the collection is launched in India. Shortly after the launch, he will also unveil a special collection designed exclusively for the local Arab market consisting of Abaayas and Gallabias.
Speaking on the launch, Mr JJ Valaya said: “About ten years back, we were the first designers to enter Dubai. Today we are proud to be the first Indian solo design house to open its flagship store. Dubai in culture and preferences is very similar to India. Fabric and handcrafts play a very important role as do quality and design.
The UAE market has grown in leaps and bounds in the last decade and we have been fortunate enough to witness it first hand. Whilst we will be doing a lot of Indian hand work inspired fusion collection, a major thrust will be on UAE fashion statements such as Abaayas, Gallabias and the wedding segment.”
