Jordan’s trade balance deficit with the Arab World dropped by 52 percent in the first half of 2002 reaching $39 million compared to $81 million during the same period last year, reported Xinhua.
The Kingdom’s imports from Arab countries dropped by 6.4 percent to $277 million in the first six months of the year reaching $277 million compared to $296 million during the same period last year. Its exports increased by 17 percent in the first half of 2002 reaching $490 million compared to $419 million during the same period in 2001.
Jordan’s main trading partners over the last decade were Saudi Arabia, Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Some 74 percent of Jordan’s total exports headed for Arab markets over the past 10 years, with imports from those markets representing 84 percent of the total. — (menareport.com)
