Fuel prices [in Jordan] are expected to go down by at least 6 per cent at the beginning of next month, Fahed Al Fayez, president of the Gas Stations Owners Association (GSOA) said on Tuesday.
“The drop will not be less than 6 per cent and might reach 8 per cent,” Fayez predicted, basing his expectations on the average price of Brent Crude Oil on the international market during the month April.
The global price per barrel this month has ranged between $99 and $102, while the average price of Brent Crude Oil was $108 a barrel when the government updated the domestic prices of fuel products last month, the GSOA president told The Jordan Times over the phone.
The government is set to announce its monthly price update of oil derivatives for the domestic market next Tuesday, April 30, which will then go into effect in the early hours of the following day.
The price of cooking gas is set to remain unchanged at JD10 ($14) per cylinder.
Last month, the government lowered the prices of the two gasoline products by 5 per cent, while prices of kerosene and diesel dropped by almost 7 per cent.
Currently, one litre of unleaded 90-octane gasoline is sold at JD0.80 ($1.13)., while 95-octane costs JD0.97 ($1.37) per litre.
Diesel and kerosene are priced at JD0.665 ($0.93) per litre.
The government lifted fuel subsidies on November 14 last year and decided to reflect global oil prices on the domestic market via a monthly review by a pricing committee.
