Jordan currently holds first place amongst all Arab countries in terms of number of insurance companies. Out of the 212 insurance companies that operate in the Arab World, 27 are based in Jordan.
A report in Al-Ddustour daily lists the number of companies in other Arab states as follows: 26 in Lebanon; 24 in Saudi Arabia; 22 in the UAE; 15 in Tunisia; 13 in Egypt; 12 in Sudan; ten in Morocco; nine in Bahrain; eight in Algeria; six in Kuwait; six in Palestine; five in Oman; five in Mauritania; four in Qatar, and three companies in Iraq.
According to reports by the Arab Insurance Association, the value of the total turnover of all operating insurance firms in the Arab countries is estimated at $6 billion. This figure accounts for three percent of the total insurance turnover worldwide. — (MENA Report)
