King Abdullah of Jordan received on Saturday a message from Saudi Arabia's King Fahd bin Abdul Aziz on the need to develop a unified Arab front on issues of concern to the region at the upcoming Arab summit in Amman, Royal Court source said.
The message was delivered to King Abdullah by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Saud Al-Faisal, who was on a brief visit to Jordan.
“The letter revolved around means to boost Amman-Riyadh ties, the current situation in the region, and preparations to make the Arab summit a success,” the source told Jordan Times.
He said King Abdullah stressed the need to place “economic development in the Arab world” atop the summit's agenda.
Arab leaders decided in Cairo last October to convene an annual summit on a regular, rotating basis. Amman was chosen as a venue for the first such regular gathering at the highest level. The meeting is scheduled for March 26.
Prince Saud underlined King Fahd's keenness to “ensure that the Amman summit is a success and come out with a unified Arab action vis-à-vis all pertaining issues.”
For his part, the King underscored “the need to pursue Jordanian-Saudi consultations and coordination at the highest level.”
Prince Saud's talks with King Abdullah were attended by Prime Minister Ali Abu Ragheb, Chief of the Royal Court Fayez Tarawneh and Foreign Minister Abdul Ilah Al-Khatib.
Al-Khatib and Prince Saud later held a separate round of talks on coordinating steps on regional and international arenas. — ( Jordan Times )
