Jordan Telecom saw off its Internet Bus today to neighboring Iraq to offer free Internet services and PC training to the Iraqi people. The move aims to introduce new technologies to the Iraqi people and spread Internet knowledge among various areas in Iraq, starting with Rutba, 134 kilometers from the Jordanian-Iraqi border and expanding to other areas.
Jordan Telecom, through the bus team, will meet with Iraqi officials to brief them on Jordan Telecom network capabilities. They will explore the prospects of cooperation with Iraq in the field of information and communication services, such as access to Jordan Telecom Flag Cable, National Cable and the Data Center.
The two countries already have existing communication links through a regional Cable and Microwave stations in addition to a Fiber Optic Cable that, once completed on the Iraqi side, would connect the two countries. Work on the Cable was completed on the Jordanian side, but prevailing conditions in Iraq prevented completion on the their side.
The Internet Bus is equipped with 20 PCs all connected to the Internet through latest state of the art technologies, including VSAT and ADSL lines to provide speedy reliable access and browsing capabilities. The Internet Bus, together with the Mobile Tent have roamed various areas of the Kingdom on several occasions to introduce Jordan Telecom advanced communication technologies and the Internet to the largest number of people possible, namely in the distant areas.
Earlier this month a delegation from Jordan Telecom had visited Rutba in Iraq with the aim of getting a first hand experience of the needs of the Iraqi people and exploring prospects of cooperation prior to the Bus visit. The delegation met with a number of Iraqi citizens and officials who welcomed the move and commended it as a friendly gesture from the brotherly people of Jordan. — (menareport.com)
