ALBAWABA - a Ukrainian drone attack was carried out on a gunpowder factory in western Russia, AFP reports citing Ukrainian officials, as Kiev intensifies its aerial attacks on power and military facilities within Russia.
A source from Ukraine's defense sector informed AFP that the attack was conducted using incendiary drones, with one of the hits effectively impacting the military facility in the city of Kotovsk, located approximately 350 kilometers from the Ukrainian frontier in Russia's Tambov region.
In an effort to impede Moscow's capacity to attack Ukrainian cities or expand its influence in the industrial east, Kyiv has intensified its aerial assaults on military and energy facilities within Russia in recent months.
The Ukrainian defense source adds to AFP that the facility was targeted by drones in January and November and is responsible for the production of ammunition and propellant for light weapons.
The assault occurs in the midst of an organized strike plan by Russia that has been directed at Ukrainian power infrastructure, resulting in a series of timed power blackouts and the permanent destruction of vital facilities.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky recently stated that persistent Russian strikes on energy facilities have reduced Ukrainian power output by half relative to a year ago, prompting him to urge Kyiv's partners to provide additional air defense systems to counter Russian missile and drone bombardment.
