The Kuwaiti Muhammad Abdulmuhsin Al-Kharafi Group has recently won a tender for the construction of the Al-Awzay upper bridge, which aims to facilitate traffic between the capital Beirut and the country’s southern region, Ahmad Al-Daghaily, the firm’s technical manager in Lebanon disclosed, Al-Sharq Al-Awsat reported.
The $30 million bridge will be funded by the Arab Economic and Social Development Fund (AFESD), the Kuwaiti Fund for Arab Economic Development (KAFED) and the government of Lebanon, which will contribute 20 percent of the funds.
Al-Kharafi competed for the tender against CIT, The Elie Salwan Company and the Mabani Building Company. The tender was awarded to the Kuwaiti group in the beginning of December, after the company had just finished a $50 million project at the Beirut International Airport, including the road pavement and construction of a multi-story car-park.
Al-Daghaily confirmed that the group will also construct a new residential tower in Saseen square in the eastern Ashrafiya neighborhood of Beirut. Work is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of 2002
The Al-Kharafi group will also construct a five-star hotel, trade centers and apartment complexes in the southern Bir Hassan area of Beirut, reported the paper. The apartment complexes will be built near the 25,000 square meter Golf course, purchased by the group in Beirut. — (menareport.com)
