Kuwait's Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Sabah Sunday said "the cabinet had decided to hike aid to tsunami-hit Southeast Asian nations to US$ 100 million." The minister told KUNA 70 million would go into infrastructure and reconstruction projects in the region within the next three years. "Better give the poor a fishing net than a fish," he remarked.
The remaining US$ 30 million would be in form of immediate relief, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, Social Affairs and Labor Minister and Acting Minister of Information Faysal Al-Hajji urged civil community institutions to join the massive relief campaign that is to commence next Sunday.
Speaking also to KUNA, hesaid "the state had promptly reacted to the ever-gloomier reassessments of the situation and damage after the tsunami and hiked its relief donation repeatedly." The relief campaign Sunday, he conveyed, would be organized and supervised by Kuwait Red Crescent Society and the donations would be collected between 11 at noon and 11 in the evening.
Stressing the scope of damage far surpasses earlier assessment, Al-Hajji urged companies and non-state institutions to generously boost their contributions.
