German Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder on Tuesday called on Kuwait and other Arab states to waive Iraq's debts.
Schroeder, according to Reuters, said in a speech he was optimistic about Iraq and urged Arabs to play a greater role in helping rebuild the country.
The Kuwaiti government has said it would recommend to parliament to write off most of Iraq's $16 billion debt owed to its neighbor.
