The Kuwaiti Ministry Of Information announced that it has conducted a new raid against a computer reseller who was allegedly dealing in illegal software. This operation followed a period of investigation and research, which revealed that the reseller was loading unlicensed software programs on newly-sold computers, in addition to trading in counterfeit CDs.
This new raid follows a series of similar activities that took place in Kuwait over the past few weeks, based on a countrywide report that lists companies and resellers who are thought to be using or selling illegal software. Each of these companies is investigated further, and those found to be undertaking illicit activities will face enforcement action.
“It is our duty to ensure that the rights of companies who invest in our country are protected and that the law remains above everyone” said Sheikha Rasha Al-Sabah, director of the Intellectual Property Department at the Kuwaiti Ministry of Information.
“That is why our focus today more than ever before is on prosecuting those who choose not to abide by the law; and that in order to provide a healthy economical environment for all intellectual property holders throughout Kuwait,” he added.
The Kuwaiti government recently established a joint task force between the Ministry of Information, the Municipality and the Ministry of Interior to fight copyright infringement throughout the country.
“Each new raid brings us a step closer to our target, which is to achieve a piracy free environment, “ added Sheikha Rasha, “we know that the road ahead is still long, but we are committed to intellectual property and to the rights of its owners.”
