DUBAL, a leading regional supplier of aluminium has accepted ownership of a new state-of-the- art 125MW Alstom steam turbine that, along with its already turbine fleet, will allow the aluminium giant to increase its generating capability to a massive 1700MWs, at a world class operating efficiency level of 45%.

"In many ways, this new acquisition is indeed a major milestone for DUBAL. The new Alstom 125MW, which was commissioned by us during the summer of 2004, comprises of two GE Frame 9 gas turbines and two CMI heat recovery steam generators. Also, in-line with DUBAL's stated commitment towards guaranteeing a cleaner and healthier environment, the gas turbines have specially built in combustion equipment which limit the production of atmospheric pollutants to well below accepted international standards," said Mr. Mossa Ismael, General Manager, Power and Desalination, DUBAL.

Furthermore, the spring of 2005 will witness the culmination of DUBAL's ambitious $16 million program to retrofit its existing technology and implement uprates on its existing gas turbines. This combustion technology will guarantee that DUBAL produces considerably less oxides in its smelting operations, whilst improving on turbine output, by as much as 6%.

DUBAL has also experienced other major new developments in the last few months. Potline 9, the newest of DUBAL's potlines reached maximum production during the summer of 2004. DUBAL's site load now stands at an impressive and enviable 1250MW. Also, since the training and development of national employees has always been a crucial aspect of DUBAL's fast-paced development, as things now stand, a comprehensive 60% of its operating staff are national employees and more so than ever before, national employees are becoming an increasingly important factor in the impressive development of the company.
