A Lebanese-Emirati joint venture is planning to construct a tourist complex on real estate located in the coastal suburb of Khaldeh, south of the capital Beirut. Some 60 percent of the 120,000 square-meter wide property is state-owned, while the remaining 40 percent is held by private investors.

The complex, whose construction is to be supervised by the Sidon Port Authority, will include five-star hotels, commercial centers and a marina on the Mediterranean sea. Khaldeh is also home to the Beirut International Airport.

Lebanon received 369,916 tourists during the first half of 2002, a 3.4 percent increase compared to figures recorded from the same period last year. Some 93,743 tourists arrived in the Republic last month compared to 89,491 visitors in June 2001, reported the Lebanese Ministry of Tourism. — (menareport.com)
