The Government of Lebanon, represented by the Council for Development and Reconstruction (CDR) will pre-qualify contractors for the implementation of a sewer network and service connections in the city of Baalbek. Invitations to bid will be made in April 2003.
The two projects include the supply and laying of a 148 kilometer of wastewater collection system for Baalbek and surrounding villages. The tender will also include the supply and construction of 13, 250 service connections, 108 kilometers of Polyethylene pipes and six kilometers of ductile iron pipes.
Pre-qualification procedures will be conducted in accordance with guidelines specified by the World Bank and is open to all bidders from eligible source countries as defined by the financial institution. The CDR will accept applications until February 3.
Lebanon’s wastewater sector does not produce satisfactory services for the majority of the population. Overflowing wastewater collection systems cause severe sanitary conditions and taint surface and groundwater resources. — (menareport.com)
