South Korea’s LG-Caltex has signed a contract with the Omani government to provide technical support to the Sohar refinery. The $45 million deal is part of a larger project to build a 75,000 barrel per day (bpd) refinery, with a target date of completion set for 2006, reported Reuters.
The $880 million refinery is to be built in Sohar, about 250 kilometers northwest of Muscat, Oman. Major facilities include an atmospheric distillation unit, RFCC unit, LPG Merox unit, gasoline desulfurization unit, deep desulfurization unit, and offsite/utilities facilities. Major products are gasoline, propylene, LPG, naphtha, kerosene, gas oil, and fuel oil
Established in 1967 as a joint venture between LG Group and Caltex Corporation, LG-Caltex Oil Corporation is one of the largest petroleum refining companies in Asia, as well as a producer of petrochemical products.
