Korean digital manufacturer LG Electronics has unveiled an ambitious target to be among the leading GSM mobile suppliers throughout the Middle East and Africa by the end of next year with projected 2003 regional sales of one million phones. The projection comes just four months after the Korean giant entered the United Arab Emirates (UAE)’s competitive GSM market with two phone handsets—the LG-600 and LG510W.
“Following a highly encouraging response in these existing markets, moves are now underway to spread our regional GSM product network to Oman and Bahrain, with plans to bring Saudi Arabia on line within the next quarter,” said M.B. Shin, LG Electronics president for the Middle East and Africa operations. “We intend to engage in aggressive marketing and promotion to become one of the leading mobile phone brands in this region by the end of next year,” Shin added. — (menareport.com)
