LibanCell launched this week its new “Educational Support Program”, aimed at establishing coordination and partnership with various universities and educational centers, by agreeing to donate $200,000 to the American University of Beirut (AUB) for research and training purposes in the field of communications technology.

LibanCell Chairman, Hussein Rifai, clarified that the company was not “merely donating” the money, but is aiming to establish a “long-term partnership” with AUB and at later stages with other educational institutions.

In its initial phase, the program will fund the construction of two laboratories in the engineering school — one supporting a graduate research program in cellular and microwave communications — and the other dedicated for lectures and courses in GSM technology as well as for the development of “innovative value-added services” in wireless application protocols.— (Banque du Liban et d'Outre-Mer Sal)
