Lebanon’s national mail service, LibanPost, is teaming up with Western Union to give its clients the option of paying their bills through the US Corporation’s electronic money-transfer network. In order to pay a bill, all LibanPost clients will need to do is enter any post office in the country and give payment instructions. They, in turn, will be passed on to Western Union.
Quoted by the Daily Star, LibanPost chairman Nassib Husseini claimed that the new service is cost-effective because it saves money and time spent at bank. The service will be especially useful to people in remote areas, he added.
LibanPost plans to begin offering service for telephone bills in January. Western Union currently is negotiating with a variety of ministries about allowing payments for electricity, water bills and even taxes. — (Albawaba-MEBG)
