An eight-member team of representatives from the Association of Duty Free Operators, Malaysia and Malaysia Airports (Sepang) visited Dubai International Airport last week to obtain an insider's view of the Dubai Duty Free operation.
The high level delegation, which had selected Dubai Duty Free as part of a global study of top airport retail operations, was met by a team of senior managers, including General Manager of Dubai Duty Free, George Horan and Deputy General Manager Operations, Brendan O' Shea. The site visit included a tour of the 5,400 square meter shopping complex in Sheikh Rashid Terminal, as well as a presentation on the growth and development of the operation since it began in 1983.
Currently ranked sixth in the world in terms of turnover, Dubai Duty Free is well on track to achieve record sales of one billion Emirati dirhams ($280 million) in 2002. Widely regarding as an innovator within the industry, the operation is the current holder of Frontier's ‘Airport Retailer of the Year' award. — (menareport.com)
