Malaysia’s WCT Engineering has reportedly been approached to undertake the construction project of Istanbul’s new race circuit, in the hopes of landing a spot on the Formula One calendar, sometime after 2005.
Still at the design stage, work on the grand prix auto racing track, which could cost as much as $100 million, is scheduled to commence during 2003 and last up to three years. WCT is also involved in constructing an F1 circuit in Bahrain.
A Turkish private limited company is hoping to convert an abandoned state-owned coal mine in Kemerburgaz, on the outskirts of Istanbul, into an auto-racing venue. — (menareport.com)
