ALBAWABA - As the continuous turmoil in the Middle East interrupts energy supply channels and puts pressure on international markets, India has started importing Iranian crude oil for the first time since 2019.

India's Ministry of Petroleum claims that in order to counteract interruptions caused by instability in the Strait of Hormuz, Indian refineries have obtained crude supplies from a variety of sources, including Iran. The action follows years of trade suspension brought on by US sanctions.

Following a temporary relaxation of U.S. sanctions intended to stabilize supply problems, officials said there are presently no obstacles to processing payments for Iranian oil.

Change in Strategy

The third-biggest oil consumer in the world, India, has shown its capacity to diversify supply chains by obtaining petroleum from more than 40 nations. But in order to guarantee energy security, rising geopolitical concerns have compelled a reevaluation of buying tactics.

Impact on the Market

The ruling, according to analysts, emphasizes the mounting pressure on significant importers to get dependable energy sources in the face of increased regional unrest. The reintroduction of Iranian oil into India's supply chain may also indicate a change in the dynamics of the world's energy markets.
